As part of Live & Learn: enriching lives through monthly learning series, RML is offering Talkin’ About a Total Solar Eclipse featuring Dr. Tim Folkerts on Thursday, March 28 at 5:30 pm in the lower level Community Room.
In this enlightening talk, Dr. Tim Folkerts will delve into the fascinating realm of solar eclipses, exploring topics that include:
· The intricate positioning of the sun, moon, and earth required for a solar eclipse, and its comparison to the more common lunar eclipses.
· Insightful discussions on the historical, religious, and cultural significance of eclipses, including notable dates of some eclipses, both past and future.
· Detailed insights into the path and timing of the upcoming eclipse.
· Various safe methods for observing and enjoying the April 8th solar eclipse.
Dr. Tim Folkerts, a distinguished physicist with a passion for education, will lead this session. Raised in Iowa, Dr. Folkerts cultivated his interest in science from a young age. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California at Davis and has conducted research in the field of superconductivity at Iowa State University. Dr. Folkerts has dedicated his career to educating others, having taught at esteemed colleges and universities across Iowa, Kansas, and Indiana. Prior to joining Northeast Iowa Community College, he also managed a small planetarium in Kansas.
